Raphael Saadiq - “Skyy Can You Feel Me” - Live @ Irving Plaza, NYC

Sitting on the plane returning from a productive trip out west took me back to how incredible this song is. It takes me personally to another place. I recorded this at Irving Plaza in 2009. Peep the horn arrangement and my man Charles going OFF at the end of the song. Meet me in the clouds on this one.

SXSW 2010 - DEMBYCRATIC EDITION

I just got back from Austin and besides having no blackberry and being analog for 3 days it was INCREDIBLE. Any real music lover MUST make SXSW an annual stop. PERIOD. Every band you ever want to see is out there and honestly my ears are STILL ringing.

Performance highlights that come to mind were The XX, Theophilus London, Marina & The Diamonds, Estelle, VV Brown, Raphael Saadiq, Broken Bells, Yelawolf, Honey Honey & my FAVORITE was a band called Carney. The lead singer Reeve is a lovechild made between Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley raised by Robert Plant. SERIOUSLY. GET FAMILIAR HERE

Check out a DOPE performance of “Hum Drum Town” by Theophilus London Live @ Malverde:

SHOUTS: Stone & The Couch Sessions, the XL/Beggars Crew, Caroline/CAA, Paul from The BBC, Marciano, Martin & Jackson & The Mayer Hawthorne crew, Thuy-An, Zoe Kravitz, Dan Solo, KJ from T.O., Danielle @ FOX, ATLindsay & The Motion Family Crew, Photos by Tone for the new camera tips, Rob Fields, Watts and TheLovers, J. Aisner, D. Smith and the Team CRUNK for keeping me up WAY past my bedtime…

PARIS, JE-TAIME

I just returned from a 12 day jaunt in 4 countries: France, Holland, Germany, and Denmark. I hit the road with the band I am so in love with Quadron to road manage their shows in Paris and Bourges and rest was my own personal adventure to connect with like minded people and explore what is out there. First stop was Paris and I could only give a glimpse of how magical my week there was.

Shouts to my crew: Quadron for reminding me of what my heart beats for, Larissa for the cookies and nonstop adventures, Charlotte and Brice for holding us down while in Paris, Berg for being a great friend, Mikael Columbu for the ill visuals and the hang time, Jay at BlackRainbow, Guillaume and Gilles from Alter K, Thomas & Gregory from U-Nit, Raphael Saadiq and crew for the late night eats “Colombo”!, laughs and good times, Aloe Blacc and TeAmir and crew for the good music, Chryder and the Le Blogoteque Crew for showing us what magic on the fly looks like, and James Blake, Rob, and crew for the mesmerizing show and a reminder that GOOD MUSIC is out there….

Watch this space for my adventures from the rest of my trip.

ALSO, My friend Larissa Sirah (remember the name) is a DOPE Germaican Songstress and will sing at the drop of a hat. Homie is fearless and this happened on the Metro on while en route to the Aloe Blacc show.

RAPHAEL SAADIQ - SOHO HOUSE SESSION
My little Idea Shop Humbleriot put on a classic soul session at the Soho House with Raphael Saadiq. The vibe was electric and it was the equivalent of seeing your favorite soul crooner right in your living room.
His drummer Lamar wasn’t able to make so it Raphael asked the crowd if anyone could play Cajon. A fan in the crowd named Evan became a legend that night because he volunteered his services and played the entire 45 min set….and KILLED IT!!!
The homie Mel D. Cole was on deck and got some good flicks. Peep them HERE
Peep some video footage of his joint “Heart Attack” below
